Section 1: Context

Deep knowledge work is fragmenting. The solo expert—the researcher who held a domain entirely in their head, the strategist whose judgment was unquestionable because no one else had done the synthesis—is becoming economically and cognitively unsustainable. Simultaneously, AI systems are reliable enough to handle discrete analytical tasks: literature reviews, code generation, scenario modeling, policy gap analysis, pattern detection across massive datasets.

Organizations, government agencies, activist networks, and product teams are all facing the same pressure: either learn to work with AI as a thinking partner, or watch capability flatten as expertise becomes distributed and fragmented. The professional identity that emerged in the analog era—the person who accumulates knowledge and deploys it—no longer matches the work.

In corporate contexts, this shows up as teams paralyzed by whether to “trust” AI outputs.
